Fujitsu Demonstrates Mobile WiMAX SoC at Broadband Wireless @ Interop Las Vegas

Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) will exhibit its first mobile System-on-Chip (SoC) at Broadband Wireless @ Interop Las Vegas. Fujitsu is a platinum sponsor of this industry-leading event, and will exhibit its MB86K21 mobile SoC at Booth 1931 in the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada. Fujitsu is also invited to speak on two prominent panels during the show.

Fujitsu will demonstrate its highly integrated one-chip MAC and PHY mixed-signal baseband mobile SoC on the exhibit floor. Using 90nm low-leakage process technology, the Fujitsu mobile WiMAX SoC is optimized for use in mobile stations and terminals, and PC cards. The demonstration will show how MPEG2 HL video clips stored in the server are sent as a multimedia stream to the PC via a test base station equipment to the mobile station containing the MB86K21 baseband mobile WiMAX SoC. The demo has achieved an 18.6Mbps transfer rate.

Also included in the demo booth will be the company’s flagship 802.16d (fixed) WiMAX SoC, with its high performance, upper-layer MAC technology running at about 10Mbps, almost equivalent to the theoretical maximum, with a 3.5MHz channel width. Aperto Networks will feature its base station using the Fujitsu fixed WiMAX SoC, and Solectek will showcase both base station and CPE at the Fujitsu booth.

Fujitsu invited to speak at conference kickoff and WiMAX-WiFi mesh panels

At the Broadband Wireless Conference Kickoff panel on Tuesday, May 22, from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m., Makoto Awaga, general manager of the Mobile Solution Division, Fujitsu Limited Electronic Devices Group, will speak on the topic of “New Business Opportunities in the Broadband Wireless Era.” Awaga will address the creative use of WiMAX networks, and emerging opportunities in rich media-centric, bi-directional service delivery such as mobile video capture and forwarding, as well as voice-over-WiMAX and converged WiFi-WiMAX networks. He will also detail multi-hop relay/mesh technologies and pico-relay stations, which carry the advantages of ever higher data-rates, capacity enhancements and ease of deployment for mesh and hybrid WiFi-WiMAX networks.

On day two, Wednesday, May 23 from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m., George Wu, director of marketing, Wireless Business Group, Fujitsu Microelectronics America, will be part of an industry panel to address the right mix of technology from among WiFi, WiMAX and mesh topologies, to serve growing user densities, application requirements and geographical service footprints.
