Samsung Electronics has revealed it is working with the US Army's CERDEC during the next few months to evaluate WiBRO technologies, the South Korean version of Mobile WiMAX. Samsung and CERDEC will work at the Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) On-The-Move (OTM) experimentation facility located at Ft. Dix, New Jersey, USA.
The organisations will use commercially available WiBRO technologies in a mobile military environment, in the absence of the commercially fixed infrastructure generally used. Engineers will work to characterise WiBRO product performance in an environment which includes mobile users and mobile base stations.
WiBRO was designed to enable users to move between base stations and is regarded as one of the technologies which enables the Army to provide an affordable wireless technology to soldiers engaged in combat.
